MWC 2024’s Most Exciting Concepts

MWC or Mobile World Congress 2024 just ended last week in Barcelona, after 3 days jam-packed with innovative and iterative tech product announcements. From just meh to absolutely mind-blowing, a number of products, concepts and ready-to-launch were announced at the event. In this article, we’ve summarized a list of MWC 2024’s most exciting concepts. So without further ado, let’s dive in.

Chinese consumer electronics company, Lenovo, unveiled a transparent laptop at MWC’24, that took the tech community by storm. The laptop basically serves as a proof of concept, and sports a 17.3 inch Micro-LED display, that is completely see-through. And if you thought that’s all, no, the keyboard on the laptop too is unusual. It doesn’t have any physical buttons, but sports a touch panel, that lights up, revealing the keyboard as soon as you touch it.

TECNO, the Chinese smartphone brand, owned by Transsion Holdings, popular for some of the most value-for-money smartphones, revealed its first robot dog at MWC’24. The robot dog is called Dynamic 1, and is modelled after a German Shepherd. It can be controlled either via an app on your smartphone, voice commands, or dedicated remote controllers.

Motorola’s Bendable Smartphone

Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Motorola showcased a unique smartphone concept at MWC’24. The smartphone, at first, looks like a regular bar-form smartphone, but it is actually bendable. The screen that it sports is flexible, and the idea behind the concept is to give you the freedom to keep your hands free, while you wrap your smartphone on your wrist. Cool? Yes! Practical? Maybe, who knows!

Samsung’s Bendable Smartphone – Samsung Cling Band

If you thought Motorola was the only one to have worked on a bendable phone, you were wrong. Samsung too showcased a similar concept, called the Samsung Cling Band, at MWC’24. Just like Motorola, Samsung’s bendable (wrappable?) phone too, sports a flexible OLED display, and you can just snap it (not really, since it’ll take a little more effort) on your wrist, and go about your day without worrying about taking out your phone from your pocket, every time it rings.

T-Mobile’s App-less AI Phone

T-Mobile, a mobile telecom company, also known as Deutsche Telekom AG, in association with Brain.ai and Qualcomm, showcased a smartphone prototype at MWC’24, that doesn’t have any apps. The idea is to do away with a screen full of apps, and let the on-device AI assistant handle all that the user wants to do. For example, booking a hotel room, etc. While that sounds mighty convenient, and freeing, a complete lack of apps is something that doesn’t sound very practical.

Xpanceo’s XR Holographic Contact Lenses

Dubai-based deep tech company, Xpanceo showcased a bunch of contact lenses at MWC’24. But the one that captured the most attention was a pair, with which the company has set out to replace your XR (AR/VR) headsets. It comes with XR capabilities and supports health monitoring, and content surfing, among other features. Sci-fi fans will be excited to know that it can display information as a heads-up display, but according to the company that’s just going to be medical-related, for now.
